We want to thank Sheila for being Reece's foster mom; she did a good job of helping him and informing us of who he would become. Thanks Sheila!!!
We've had Reece since 4/13/06. He's come along way since his 24 hour ride home. We're so glad that he loves riding in the car.
He's very good at living in and being a member of our home. He has attended one combined session of obedience and agility. He did pretty good at most things but would get so excited when he mastered the tunnel that he would explode into running and jumping; then he's turn and immediately go back through the tunnel usually 2-3 times just loving it. We did get him to work a bit better at that and the teeter-totter over time, but it's a challenge he really loves running through the tunnel in both directions!
He loves his walks and gets a 4+ mile walk from his mom almost every day. He has boots for the salty sloppy and really cold weather, he can't walk when they first get put on but is fine as soon as the door opens. He has his own small fenced yard for his outside time and short play sessions. We use the rest of the yard for longer play sessions and the Frisbee which he loves almost as much as fetching the ball.
He does have high energy but with exercise it is very manageable. It is great that his on-off switch works so well, "all done" and he's shut off.
He recently discovered the squeakers in some of his predecessor's toys and has been walking around squeaking these things. He has learned the house boundaries quite well and does not venture into the off-limits areas of the kitchen, dining room or living room.
He has brought us great joy and pleasure and does so too to my parents. His ears perk up when we ask him if he wants to go see Gramma or Grammpa. It's good for all three of them to be together.
We are still working on getting him to swim better he splashes and struggles on his way out to the toy, but swims fine on his way back in. He seems to like it and will stand in the lake waiting for you to throw him something to retrieve, which he does just fine unless of course it's about 6" further than he thinks is ok on that day and then he runs back and forth trying to find a way to get closer to it before he'll go after it.
He's come a long way and still has some distance to go, like unleashed woods walks, they are still a real challenge, he thinks the woods critters need to be tended to.
I love his expressions and the way he uses his ears as a part of his communication skills. Again thanks Sheila!!
